Digestive system & detoxification

Bloating, gas, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain. Everyone has experienced some of these problems.

The good news is that many herbs and plant extracts can help relieve these symptoms. Digesting the food that goes into our bodies required a very complex multi-organ system. Digestion of food starts in the mouth and continues in the stomach and intestines.

Digestion of the food we eat is carried out by digestive enzymes, which break down the various nutrients into smaller components. Once this done, the intestinal tract starts to excrete the nutrients and release them into the bloodstream. The bloodstream will transport the nutrients to the place of use or storage.

The gut flora contains billions of tiny organisms called 'good' and 'bad' micro-organisms. The microorganisms of the 'good' flora ferment indigestible fibres. Fermentation produces short-chain fatty acids, which are used by the muscle, colon and liver. So the fibres are used to feed this flora - these are so-called prebiotics that feed the gut flora. In addition, the gut flora breaks down bile acids and produces vitamins B and K. In addition, the 'good' flora protects against infection by taking up space, so that infections are less likely to take hold. So it's very important to keep our gut flora in balance - unfortunately, due to the average person's lifestyle, there are many ways that sensitive gut flora can be damaged, and supporting it with pre- and probiotics is essential.

There are plants that provide digestive enzymes, there are plants that balance the gut flora and there are plants that provide the gut flora with nutritional fibre (prebiotics) (Spirulina, Psylium Husk). In addition, there are some that have a laxative effect to help combat constipation (Cascara Sacadra, Parsley, Psylium Husk). 

The liver is our main detoxifying organ, the liver is responsible for the elimination of toxins in the blood (detoxification), and also helps digest fats by producing bile.

Too many toxins will cause the liver to become damaged (fatty liver), making it less able to excrete harmful substances. This leads to a host of diseases (cancer, autoimmune diseases, hormone problems, etc.) and overall deterioration of health.

The main target of detoxification is therefore the liver. Many herbs support liver health and function.
